'Floral Stitch' // Urban Symbiotics
Brief: To create a meaningful public artwork for the corner of Mansell street, Aldgate. The design is take inspiration from and celebrate the vibrant and diverse local communities of Aldgate.
Working with Urban Symbiotic's and the City of London Destination City Team (DC) we held a series of workshops with local community groups, residents and schools to develop an artistic narrative that would reflect the untold stories of Aldgate’s rich and diverse communities.
This engagement played a key role in this project, and through the workshops we developed a design that celebrated local organic growth. Flowers were chosen to represented the local residents inspired by the community garden, a proud feature of the estate.
Pairing complimentary colours across the brick coursing, a stitch motif was incorporated throughout the design as well, allowing this to weave throughout the floral display, again showcasing and celebrating the vibrance and diversity within Aldgate.
