Illuminated Reeds Symphony // Client: FOR Cardiff
Brief: To design and present a temporary lighting sculpture that was interactive while celebrating the city's ambition, connection to nature, and the transformative power of light.
Illuminated Reeds Symphony at Churchill Way, is a temporary interactive lighting piece commissioned by FOR Cardiff and presented floating in the heart of the redeveloped Bute Park canal. This light sculpture mimics the elegance of reeds swaying gently in the breeze and engages with audiences through the immersive and interactive nature of the piece.
Six accessible ground based pressure pads can be accessed by foot or wheel that activate a dynamic variety of notes inspired by the Welsh countryside and compiled by sound designer Ella Roberts. These notes compliment a harmonious symphony of gentle, ambient music that resonates throughout the artwork. The lighting display respond in a choreographed dance, synchronising their luminance with the rhythm of the music.
