'Excess of Elsewhere' // Client: Kyung Hwa Shon // Meta Open Arts

Brief: Collaboration with Kyung Hwa Shon to provide an interior mural for the new Meta offices, Kings Cross, London.

Kyung Hwa Shon’s bold mural spans the reception and mezzanine wall at Meta’s new London offices.

The mural took three weeks to complete in collaboration with Kyung Hwa Shon and The London Mural Company.

One of several artworks commissioned for the space, see also our pieces with Lilah Fowler and Yinka Ilori.

Kyung Hwa Shon takes inspiration from the urban environment and is accompanied through her walks in the city by an imaginary character “Stillman” of whom she says “It is a non-embodied spectral entity; I feel my status appears and disappears like a ghost. I’m floating, walking around here and there without any goals or destination.”

The mural artwork is “an accelerated exchange between reality and perception, resulting in a powerful graphic imagery where lines, colours and shapes weave a discernible texture of transposed and intermingled senses. The final manifestation of Kyung Hwa’s mural is a visualisation of dynamic, endless rhythms occurring within every second of the urban experience” as described by Meta Open Arts.
